I have several ThinkPads, and think this is great news, BUT... I wish they'd get behind just one distribution. They're selling some models (laptop and desktop) with Fedora, some with Ubuntu. Focus on the one distribution. Get that polished, then consider selling with other distributions further down the line. Don't offer several when just starting to sell Linux machines. Dell only does Ubuntu, last I checked. System76 has Pop! If one distribution here fails to meet the customer's expectation, they'll inevitably paint a broad brush saying Lenovo's Linux support is sub par.
