Show HN: Why 42? The answer.
Why is 42 the answer to the Meaning of Life, the Universe and Everything?
The ASCII for an asterisk is 42.
"Deepthought", the computer in the hitchhikers guide had a bug (see the code below, c passes an asterisk as 42) Perhaps Douglas Adams meant to give us a pointer. This is as satisfactory and poetic as '42' IMHO.
//deepthought.c
#include <stdio.h>
int main(){
char x = '*';
printf("The meaning of life the universe and everything is %i", x);
return 0;
}
