10 years for breaking election law + 14 years for "using a computer"?
- senectus1 6y agofor some reason breaking a law without using a computer is a lot less a punishment. figure out how to mug someone via computer and you'll go away for a long time.
- smt88 6y agoRansomware is similar to computerized mugging, and it indeed has a much greater penalty than actual mugging.
- sterlind 6y agoPlus you can mug hospitals, police departments, companies and municipal governments! The analogy isn't perfect though; mugging carries a risk of bodily harm that ransomware doesn't (besides against hospitals.)
- smt88 6y agoMy only defense of this is that software is intended to amplify work. Just like you could do bookkeeping 1,000x faster with a computer vs. paper, you can commit election-related crimes 1,000x faster if the computer does the calling for you.
