Philosophy’s Systemic Racism
- guerrilla 6y agoReminds of my Philosophy Tube's [1] discussion on what to do about this. On the other hand, what bothers me about the institution of philosophy is the complete absence of non-European philosophy. Many are starting to include medieval Islam (who had and preserved Aristotle before Europeans) and that's good but what about the complete skipping of India and others like the Aztecs. [2] There was serious philosophy going on in India at about the same time (and occasionally earlier than) in Europe and various other philosophical developments around the world are totally legitimate as well but we ignore them entirely. SEP and IEP have started to collect a few articles and that's great, but it's always secondary to the main course. I don't blame so many individuals in particular, not calling anyone racist, I think this is an organic development but now that we're aware of it can we not do better than this? - HashingtheCode 6y agoPlease, I want to read from one of the famous African philosophers who was prominent in the 17th century. Can you tell me his name and paste some inspiring philosophical quotes here? Tired of reading from all these apparent racist white philosophers like Kant and Descartes.
