I think he's content with this reputation; also independently wealthy and not taking public funds or seats in academia. I say the future generations will be better off for Wolfram having gone down his rabbit holes.

Right. Except for all the times he's claimed credit for others' work. And his wikipedia page has been thoroughly whitewashed, which suggests he is not content with the reputation he deserves.
