Open Source Photo Sharing?
Hi all, the school where my kid goes to shares their pictures on Facebook.
I would like to propose an alternative sharing platform to them that allows them to better keep archives and allows parents to have more personalized and privacy conscious sharing.
Any recommendations? I'd host it myself and can maintain it for the next 10+ years as my kid goes through the years at school...

- mceachen 6y agoI think the effort is noble, but before you suggest to anyone else that you'll host it, I'd suggest you find a third-party cloud provider instead. (Know that I'm the author of a commercial, self-hosted photo and video library app!) Humans can be wonderful, but holy crap they can be quite the opposite as well. Parents are not an exception, and kids default to monsters when behind a screen. Self-hosting this puts you in the crosshairs of moderation of both content and comments.
- bramdejong 6y agophotos come only from teachers to parents, so comments nor likes are needed. it's a one way sharing.
- mceachen 6y agoThat would help. I'd also make the teachers be the moderators for their class, so they can take responsibility and handle requests to un-post stuff. (I wish I had multi-user auth and album-level permissions ready for you!)
