airlines award varying miles multiplier based on the seat class.
its just a gimmick to call their loyalty points "miles", they can call it "tokens" with same success, as they are have no relation to miles whatsoever.
- arcticbull 6y agoBroadly speaking the term "miles" was historically due to their correlation with earning rates not redemption rates. You earned 1 base mile per mile flown (conditions apply) based on the great circle distance in statute miles from your origin to your destination (http://gcmap.com http://gcmap.com). When that correlation doesn't exist they are usually referred to as "points" instead, as in hotel programs. So airlines have miles, hotels have points.
