I wonder if it is possible - if not practical - to extract color information from processed black and white film negatives. It seems plausible that there are trace chemical imperfections in the film medium, and these might react differently to different wavelengths, so that if you could inspect the image at a molecular level you could make pretty good guesses about colors.
