Vendors often try to push their fully integrated toolchain that makes everything feel like a black box (and encourages lock in). Funnily enough some Chinese Semiconductor companies who can't effort to develop such fancy SDK Wizards tend to have the more digestible SDKs (just a bunch of simple periph drivers with a Makefile) Unfortunately they also don't afford good / English documentation :\
