I used to be a land surveyor. That means eating out a lot for lunch and I noticed a lot of the other staff surveyors loved Subway because I'm from a part of the US (Philadelphia) where Italian deli sub sandwiches are a thing, and there isn't usually a long wait so you can dash in, grab one, and get back to the truck fast. So Subway is hugely popular among land surveyors and probably anyone doing outdoor work. Anyway, I knew that the bread had high sugar content but after reading this article it all makes perfect sense to me: they liked it mostly because their work is physical and the afternoons are slump time when you're trying to keep up your energy and push through to the end of the day. So they were getting Subway sandwiches and then, boom. All of a sudden you have sugar energy until quitting time!
