Kitty's ability to display is quite fun (although it is definitely not the first terminal editor to do so).
A while ago I hacked a Julia package together so that functions that emit an image (for example a plot that would usually be displayed in a Jupyter notebook or a new window) show that image in kitty. It's still a bit rough, but it is surprisingly easy to write something integrates with a lot of packages: https://github.com/simonschoelly/KittyTerminalImages.jl https://github.com/simonschoelly/KittyTerminalImages.jl

- justaj 6y agoDon't all terminal emulators have the ability to display something though?
- j-james 6y agoNope, unless you're thinking of something like `catimg`, which wouldn't really work well for the linked gplot example. `xfce4-terminal` off the top of my head is an example of a terminal emulator that supports neither sixels nor kitty's protocol. https://github.com/posva/catimg https://github.com/posva/catimg https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=729204 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=729204
- ziotom78 6y agoThanks for having created that package, I am a regular user and I think it's excellent!
