Government Is Losing the Trust of the People – California Globe
- baggy_trough 6y agoCan't imagine why.
- ericmcer 6y agoEspecially given that other states basically volunteered to be guinea pigs and just... reopened with their only protection being loosely enforced mask laws. They have had outbreaks but not the mass death people predicted. Can we just lockdown fully or reopen fully, enough of this halfway shit for who knows how long. 2 years now? That’s a significant portion of our time on earth.
- gremlinsinc 6y agoI think enforced mask wearing and 100% reopening makes the most sense. I mean it's a compromise, we have to sacrifice, some will die, but not as many, and the virus will still spread (not as far), but the economy suffers less. The only restriction maybe bars/restaurants having less patrons at a time, due to removing said mask while eating/drinking.
- jondubois 6y agoMany governments have already lost the trust of their people. Some countries are about to get brain-drained. They will be left full of fiat money, full of psychopaths, no brains, no humanity.
- AnimalMuppet 6y agoPeople definitely are losing trust in the government. Absolutely. And yet, this article has a very clear axe to grind. And who is it written by? Oh, someone in county government, who doesn't like what the state government is doing. You know, author, you might be part of the problem...
- hindsightbias 6y agoWhy is there an expectation of government to act rationally when the population can’t? If the leaders of Sweden tell their population to wear masks in public to get to R0, they’ll do it. In Merica, we cannot trust our peers to be rational. That said, metros like SF should have done better to argue for opening because we developed better testing and our numbers were low.
- RickJWagner 6y agoMy heart breaks for the small business owners who are watching their livelihoods toyed with.
- gremlinsinc 6y agoWas this ever not expected when government corruption abounds in both parties, and the approval rate of congress has been < 25 for decades? Represent.us has a good video/graphic showing how as public support of an issue grows, so should congressional support and the bills should get written, but actual passing of laws by public support is a flat line. Now, if you go with the same for billionaires, and special interest groups, you get your nice diagonal line as you'd expect. Basically proving that America isn't a democracy or republic but a straight Oligarchy.
