Nest Audio
- calmworm 6y agoAd?
- Andaith 6y agoIsn’t this just a google home mini? What’s new about it? I was kinda hoping it’d have the sensors like smoke/c02/air quality along with the other home mini features, but it looks like it’s just using the nest name?
- blacksmith_tb 6y agoThis looks to be about twice as big as the mini (and stands on end), so odds are it sounds better? Not something I've been pining for, but I guess if you were shopping for a small speaker it might appeal.
- atonse 6y agoAre the FAANG companies doing anything original anymore, except generational improvements and me-too products? Their product lineups are all looking identical. Smartphones, smart speakers, smart watches, and services to entice you to stay in their ecosystems. It seems utterly boring. It’s feeling that the next big thing isn’t going to come from any of them.
- ulfw 6y agoYou know the answer is no. It's much lower risk (albeit lower reward) to do the same that everyone else does. "Proven model" and all. Same as Hollywood studios have been doing the last ten years (hence almost every movie now is a superhero one or some remake). Of course in the long run that will shoot them in the foot. But no public company thinks much further than the next earnings report/board meeting.
- atonse 6y agoYeah I guess it was a rhetorical question. I think it's been a strategy for the last decade for most startups to hope to get acquired by these companies. And these companies also know there is always a well of innovation they can tap into via acquisitions. So it's worked out for most involved. I don't think consumers are getting the shaft by any means but there are enough tough problems that probably aren't getting addressed.
- falcor84 6y ago> ...the helpful speaker that’s all about sound Really, that's their product differentiation?! What do they think other speaker manufacturers are focusing on? Smell?
