This Overlooked Variable Is the Key to the COVID-19 Pandemic
- Mountain_Skies 6y agoWhile there is a preference on HN to use the article's actual headline, when they're of the clickbait form where information is intentionally left out of the headline that easily could have been included there, it would be best if that information were simply included. This allows potential readers to decide for themselves if they want to click and read the article. It's sad to see a publication like The Atlantic stoop to these lowbrow Clickbait 101 tricks to get views.
- rusk 6y agoI don’t think so in this case. The substance of the article isn’t as straightforward as the title would suggest, but the premise that we should be focusing on different parameters (specifically ‘k’ but only in context) is reinforced throughout. The wording of the title might be a joke even, because even once you realise that the influenza approach isn’t wholly appropriate it’s yet not as straightforward as “this simple trick”
- pjkundert 6y agoFinally, an article that brings some illumination beyond R0, in how this virus spreads! This may be one of the most important articles published about SARS-COV-2. The approach to effectively attacking "overdispursion" or "super-spreader" (stochastic) infection viruses is the opposite of normal (deterministic) ones -- backward-tracing, instead of forward-tracing. Very interesting result, which appears to have predictive power in the results of various regions attempts to suppress outbreaks. Very impressed!
