  The abstract expressionism of today is definitely anti-class conscious identity politics. A "communist" today is more likely to rattle off quotes from a hardline liberal ideologist like Judith Butler than to actually understand a materialist conception of history (and therefore identity) as outlined in "The German Ideology".
