BMW lacks manual parking brake release
So bmw x7 no longer has a manual release for a parking break. So car starts but can’t be driven because it has no manual release. And it’s a common bug in the software/hardware... very bad design
- Someone 6y agoOn the other hand, if your car’s software has such a bug, should you trust it enough to want to drive it? There likely also is software between the steering wheel and the wheels, between the brake pedal and the brakes, and that software likely is written and tested by the same team.
- taf2 6y agoYeah I never use the lane assist features in a bmw... but this is a design flaw . Think similar to the Boeing issues of not having redundant systems. It’s fine to have software just don’t remove the manual override

- simonblack 6y agoOK. I'll bite. What does that stand for? :-)
- giantg2 6y agoI like older vehicles. I like the idea of electric vehicles but I'm not excited by Teslas and all the others which are packed with tech. Give me an electric work truck, or the equivalent of my 89 caprice. I enjoyed rowing my own gears, even if were at the point where it's slower than the automatics.
- simonblack 6y agoNeither does my Mercedes. For what it's worth, one of my older Mercedes had a problem with the manual handbrake release, because it wasn't truly manual and just flipped a switch. That switch is now handled by software and is flipped when you go though a set sequence of actions in preparing to get moving.
