That is my point, higher prevalence should lead to higher excess mortality, of course. Of all EU countries, only Spain comes close to the US in prevalence. Many countries have far lower prevalence but still comparable mortality.
That tells me that when controlled for prevalence, the US actually deals far better with COVID than Europe - most likely because fewer old people got infected. Also, a lot of people died early in the pandemic, when there weren't so many tests.
