I'd speculate that most people are more effective when they feel observed and having strangers around you creates that situation.
Now coming to think about it I think this is why they had posters of the leader in "1984" everywhere.
- dualogy 16y agoThen I'm not most people. It's exactly reverse for me. Way less effective when I feel observed. Luckily I don't feel observed in a coffee shop much, most of the time. Whenever I do, I decide to "observe back" and notice that no-one was observing anyway.
