Couldn’t read the full article, paywall. But I’m homeless and have 2 years of receipts. Cash is all I need, $750/2wk. Almost saved enough to get housing twice but faced setbacks. As an educated professional, there is no expression for how frustrating this is. How many relationships died because I had to borrow $20 or $100 for food while I waited for payment, etc, and it just made them cringe. Being homeless categorically makes people “feel bad” and avoid you, 99% of people. I could have finessed better, but when you’re starving and greasy things don’t come out the same and common smalltalk/shibboleths are gone. From $200k/yr, speaking at confs, big network, to alone on the street. Just need money to sail through a round of interviews (hotel nights, the kicker). I know this is totally anecdotal, but I also have a pretty distinct platform so this is what I can do for the situation. Concretely I can share the whole process, wisdom, etc... intending to write an Urban Camping category book with notes I’ve been keeping. Vegan, leave no trace, behavior, operations, interviewing for jobs, resources, etc. (to be published after I am housed, not prior). And I do already have IG, a YT channel and Twitter, engage there (I think shadow banned or de-ranked on YT). I've earned money by gig jobs, a couple retail jobs, anywhere that'll hire me with the clothes on my back. I have tons of tech opportunity but do not have logistics to present myself well/get multiple offers—I’m pretty senior, willing to take entry level or anything but not if I have to face a hiring panel or can only get one offer. I’ve tried going in in my best clothes, but nope, too homeless looking... and now I only have a broken old phone and broken old laptop so remote is out. I am dying to express all of this, it gets better with time. I always feel “one email away” from getting off the street, landing a client. Cash would simplify everything, and my end goal is only to get a good job. Until then, just trying to get as much wisdom as possible. Email in profile.
