Have you considered an alternate or fully custom layout?

  Alternate, no, as the ergonomic benefits are designed for someone with a different typing pattern. For example Dvorak wants more typing done with the left hand, which only has a middle and ring finger, plus a spacebar thumb. Custom, maybe one day. My grandfather was an author, he wrote his novels with a typewriter. He had a fantasy of building a typewriter the size of a room where you wrote with boxing gloves, punching the keys. I'd like to have something like that one day.
