Because they're unprofessional and I have no reason to want one. Like anything else, they have risk (potential infection, chemicals in inks), and I would derive no benefit from having one.
Why would anyone be expected to, anyway?
- neolog 6y ago> they're unprofessional In what way are tattoos related to professionalism?
- jhardy54 6y agoI think they probably mean "they're taboo, which can sometimes be construed as unprofessional". Tattoos don't stop you from acting professionally but let's not pretend that a presidential candidate could have a face / neck tattoo that wouldn't dominate the news cycles and activate the purity police.
- aaron695 6y agoIn what way is professionalism tied to anything? Why not masturbate while on a Zoom meeting with the camera off? This is a thing. You could take it ad absurdum further to at your desk at work. Because these are markers of people who might be qualified for the specifics but are unqualified for the in-specifics. Tattoos have a legacy of a marker. An argument it's your body and your sexuality are irrelevant. Professionalism is understanding your work culture. Having tattoos has changed but it still exists in some situations. Just like Zoom will eventually change things as well. It's unprofessional because its unprofessional when it's unprofessional.
- mmm_grayons 6y agoPerhaps this is not the case in your nation, but here in America, they are most certainly not professional. I don't set the standards, but I wish to operate in a professional setting, so I abide by them. There's also the fact that they're inextricably linked with crime and prisons, and I would never wish to be seen as associated with such things.
