Will this be visible to the naked eye similar to the International Space Station?
- JshWright 6y agoThis object is much smaller than the ISS, and will much, much further away.
- lisper 6y agoThis. The ISS orbits only about 250 miles above the surface of the earth, less than the distance from LA to San Francisco, about 3% of the planet's diameter. It's a distance that barely registers.
- walrus01 6y agoThings in space that have sufficient velocity don't just "fall" to earth. If it's in a high elliptical or kinda-circular orbit of earth, something would need to act on it with a lot of delta-v change to bring the periapsis into the atmosphere in order for it to re-enter. Satellites above about 5000 km will remain up there on a geological time scale, though their orbits will become eccentric and weird over time as various other bodies perturb them.
- waiseristy 6y agohey, walrus01, I talked to you on HN about rural WA WISPs a month or so back. I'm moving back to the valley and am looking for advice, can you email me at the email on my profile? HN has no DMs...
