How about we just let people install whatever they want on their own pocket computers that they fully paid for? Sounds crazy, I know.

- WWLink 6y agoI agree!
- alkonaut 6y agoI wouldn’t want that. If there was a switch on my phone where I disconnected from the AppStore and could side load what I wanted I wouldn’t switch it. I quite like the service the App Store provides for the apps themselves. But I just want them to charge a cut for apps.
- ReverseCold 6y agoWhy not both? You get the AppStore and are allowed to sign apps for your own devices. (We actually already have a workaround for this: https://altstore.io/ https://altstore.io/ but it still requires Apple to sign your apps and is relatively difficult to use)
- wayneftw 6y agoOK great. I have no problem with that. I’d choose the opposite... if I had that choice. Why should we not have that choice though?
- wltprgm 6y agoThat is because apple fanboys like @alkonaut does not allow sane discussions pointing out apple flaws on iOS on Hacker News Can't you tell from his attitude? Even if you can, I still need to point that out because nobody else will
- entropea 6y agoIf you didn't want that, that's ok, but let the rest of us who want to do it, do it. I am perfectly happy with FDroid on Android and get a lot of my apps from there.
