Personally, I think it would be really hard to just meet someone whom I share no common ground with, and meeting someone who's taking the same course makes things a lot easier. I see that discovering other students based on personal/professional/academic interests could work, but then I would just join a club in that case. My cohort is based on major + year (eg. Mech Engineering Class of 2022) And the Discord server is cohort wise (eg. theres different message channels for different courses, a few lounge voice channels etc.)
