Rhino's primary use case is Java scripting, and it's (alleged) low performance probably doesn't matter a lot since it's just the glue that binds together heavier Java libraries. I know a handful of apps that use rhino that way: Mirth, Orion Rhapsody, Pentaho's Kettle...
