That "increased pilot workload" would include a change of underwear I should imagine. I am not in/from the aviation design industry but I always sort of assumed (incorrectly as it turns out) that there were no single point of failures on aircraft (redundant systems) for the major stuff. Semi-humoros thought and a total wild-shot uninformed guess but would love to do a diff on the old vs. new firmware fix just to see if all it did was perform a self-reset every x ticks.
