Imagine China tried to extradite some journalist of Guardian for exposing 're-educational' camps in Xinjiang.
We would be loosing our minds of how China has audacity to even try shit like that.
- dontcarethrow2 6y agoDidn't we sorta lose our minds when they were trying to extradite a killer that ran to Hong Kong to avoid extradition?
- me_me_me 6y agoWell its not really a fair comparison. Assange is a journalist that worked together with leading newspaper to publish warcrimes. The one hacking charge is 5years total sentence of 125yrs that us is seeking. HK case is completely different where China tried to pass far reaching law based on a murder case, that was the reason people did protested (on top of other power grab by CHinese government).
- wavefunction 6y agoThat would depend on the nature of the extradition agreements between the two countries. It seems ill-advised for Mr. Assange to head to the UK which has a famously "special relationship" with the US.

On Friday, Germany joined that list
- diabeticApe 6y agoLets do a little thought experiment shall we? Imagine for a second that the two most powerful nations on the planet, one representing democracy and freedom (yes flaws, not totally accurate just bear with me) and the other representing fear and oppression (yes not totally accurate either, utilitarianism, etc). What im trying to say is what if rather than balance and work to improve one another, these two countries UNITE in thier individual efforts to retain power and instead turn against thier own people in a desperate attempt at maintaining control. Imagine if these two giants were to unite not out of peace and mutual respect but unite IN STRENGTH. The whole world is effed at that point. Nobody can stand up to that. Where will people go? Who would they turn to? Were looking at a potentially catostrophic situation for the entire world here. We've already seen various reports about the rise of authoritarian regimes powered by oppressive tech and its a trend that will likely continue to get worse if we let it. If we abandon Assange now it sets a dangerous tone at a very dangerous point in time to the point that i almost want to say the human race is utterly doomed. The road we are walking on leads to a very dark future and it troubles me to say that the more i study the matter the more apparent it becomes that the walls are closing in and we are fast running out of time. Whether there is a conspiracy or not is irrelevant. Im tired of seeing division over petty details. Everyone here knows the situation were in. Whether you want to blame this politician or that generation or the other particular group or nationstate or criminal organization or whatever doesnt matter. If we dont turn this ship around we are 100% completely, totally and unambiguously FUCKED!
