Could Einstein Get Published Today?
- eesmith 6y agoI don't think you can pluck someone out of their historical context like this, Could Newton get published today? I doubt it. Could Picasso of the 1930s be as influential today? Probably not; the art world has changed. Would Babe Ruth be a famous baseball player today? Stephen J. Gould makes the argument that (quoting https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Jay_Gould#Cultural_evolution https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Jay_Gould#Cultural_evo... ): > ... the disappearance of the 0.400 batting average in baseball is paradoxically due to the inclusion of better players in the league, rather than players becoming worse over time. We have many "better players" in physics now than we did during Einstein's time.
- julienchastang 6y agoI heard Sean Carroll say that physicists understand relativity much better today than did Einstein. [1] [1] https://video.vermontpbs.org/video/einsteins-quantum-riddle-ykvwhm/ https://video.vermontpbs.org/video/einsteins-quantum-riddle-...
