Declare bankruptcy and don’t be ashamed of it
- salawat 6y agoI find the implication behind the exception for financial bankruptcy being left out of the encouragement to not be ashamed interesting. When the term bankruptcy is applied in any other context than it's proper one, it takes on a positive connotation, but it should still maintain stigma in it's "proper" context? It just sends a mixed message to me. I get what they're trying to say. A bit of "Spring cleaning" every now and again doesn't hurt, but why tie that to bankruptcy if you're intent is not to treat bankruptcy in it's intended context differently?
- rauhl 6y agoI have to second the call to declare email bankruptcy. Just go in and archive every email from more than, say, one month ago (or one week, or if you want to be bold, everything). Guess what? The world won’t end, and you’ll still be able to refer to anything you need simply by … opening your archive. One think the author didn’t mention was browser tab bankruptcy. Years ago Firefox was just flaky enough that it would sometimes lose all tabs, and that wasn’t really a bad thing in the long run, although it was highly annoying in the short run.
- mcrittenden 6y agoAha, I knew I was missing one! I added a bullet for browser tab bankruptcy. Thanks for pointing that out.
