China has built 380 internment camps in Xinjiang, study finds
- DarthGhandi 6y agoA reminder of where the independent Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) gets all their funding: Australian Department of Defense US Department of State Raytheon Northrop Grumman Thales Lockheed Martin BAE Systems A reasonable person might enquire why so many global weapons manufacturers have such an interest in the work they produce.
- ewokone 6y agoThanks for pointing out.
- duncan_bayne 6y agoA reasonable person might also ask whether the source of the funding has any bearing on whether or not the Chinese government is attempting genocide.
- 8bitsrule 6y agoSeveral things the articles says are happening in the Chinese camps are happening on the southern US border.
- 0xdeadb00f 6y agoDoes that make what China is doing any less awful? No. The answer is no.
- crowf 6y agoAny specific quote, or is it just the generic "The US jails people who broke US law and the Chinese jail people who broke Chinese law, so the US and China are mortally equivalent"?
- xster 6y agoSo this week, we got another round of recycled Adrian Zenz, who's now a Tibet expert as well, _and_ another round of recycled ASPI, coming back strong after round 1 landed them with a $135,909 bonus from Lockheed Martin after ASPI succeeded in convincing Australia to buy 800 million dollars of Lockheed Martin to "counter the China threat". https://apac.news/aspis-strategic-funding/ https://apac.news/aspis-strategic-funding/ Election year is coming.
- yorwba 6y ago> coming back strong after round 1 landed them with a $135,909 bonus from Lockheed Martin after ASPI succeeded in convincing Australia to buy 800 million dollars of Lockheed Martin to "counter the China threat" Nitpick: according to your linked article, the timeline is reversed: Lockheed Martin supported them with $135,909 in 2018-2019 and will supply $800 million worth of anti-ship missiles as part of this year's defence spending plan.
- deathgrips 6y agoCan't believe how biased western media is, calling the Vocational Educational Camps "internment camps". They just don't understand the cultural context of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
- Twixes 6y agoThis feels like sarcasm but I honestly can't tell with fans of PRC's authoritarianism aka ""socialism" with Chinese characteristics" popping into various discussions about Chinese violations of human rights.
- deathgrips 6y agoIt was entirely sarcasm.
