Ask HN: Why is Google proxying every click?
Every time i click a link within a video description it points me to urls like:
- https://www.youtube.com/redirect?v=xjOwB0dAd9w&redir_token=QUFFLUhqblpCS3VRNld0dUlEYUVVRGo3Y1FDUXN2OW1md3xBQ3Jtc0ttQi1YaDdiOGF4UHBndW0zR1lrTkkyZHE4ZVJDZVNldTVfTUl5VEdYaUU0Tm1JYlJuYjFULW4yN2JYYkJKV09EU2tzZ2ZDQ0x2c0pFeGRkQ2YyZ0NmTGZGVXd5NXlHSHA5LU56V3BobHZwcENybHV3QQ%3D%3D&event=video_description&q=https%3A%2F%2Fgithub.com%2FBrodieRobertson
- https://www.youtube.com/redirect?q=https%3A%2F%2Fgroups.google.com%2Fg%2Fansible-project%2Fc%2FyFnMgbjqYnU&redir_token=QUFFLUhqbVEtN1U4ZHh2RUlmbmk5bDE1LWNDSFhKUnpZd3xBQ3Jtc0trTkVObWJpNHgtMW5vbHppRlAxWVhja09DX045dU9IOVZRYkkweUFYUGEyLU1mUGhad1FSVC1ZMmVuOER0Q1BxUl8zU0UwZ2hsaC1HV0h5TndENF91akhCbGFmaHVIMmdUVHVSQW9TcFpJOTBRazJWTQ%3D%3D&v=D83Wf0njbyA&event=video_description
Even though the links are plain urls.
Seems quite agressive...
- knome 6y agoIt's how they track which links you click even if you have javascript disabled.
- neximo64 6y agoIs there way to disable this. Its a nightmare for copy pasting links.

- noahmatisoff 6y agoClick tracking, it's very important to companies like Google to do that.
