California to ban sale of new gas-only cars in 2035 under Newsom order
- maxharris 6y agoGiven what was presented at Tesla's Battery Day event, I believe that most vehicles sold in California by 2025 will be electric, and no one will be buying gasoline or diesel vehicles for any purpose by 2030. Why is Newsom banning a dead technology, and for so late a date? Where is the justice in a politician getting credit for something he has almost no hand in actually helping? I also realize that I might be missing some behind-the-scenes knowledge in my sharp questions. If that is the case, and Newsom is pulling strings to help Tesla, that is praiseworthy. Then the question becomes, where is the justice in a system that requires political support to solve technological problems such as these? I am motivated in my questions here by the fact that politics moves slower than the innovators. The methane craters in the arctic and the fires out here show that our situation is dire, and reality will brook no delay.
- melling 6y agoGiven that everything takes longer than expected, there’s not a chance that most vehicles will be electric by 2025. In fact, we’ll be lucky if 25% are by 2030. We squandered 2 decades by not using more nuclear energy because optimistically we thought renewable energy would be used a lot more by now.
- LinuxBender 6y agoExactly this. An example is ipv6. ipv6 was created in the 1990's and was expected to replace ipv4 by the early 2000's. It's 2020 and deployment is about 33%, most of that being mobile devices. People move slow unless something forces them to change.
