On YOLOsec and FOMOsec

- xbar 6y agoTryHardSec?
- goatinaboat 6y agoIndeed. It’s hard to take a security professional seriously who talks like this.
- plankers 6y agoShe's security adjacent, experience working on product in cybersecurity startups and talking at conferences. I get the vibe she cares more about money than security.
- Yowoseme 6y agoCorrect, according to her resume, she hasn't worked in a single hands on tech position. This article reeks of PR-esque personal attention seeking behavior. She made some good points in the article but as a poster said above, it was painful to read this article. From the author's website: Work Experience Currently VP of Product Strategy at Capsule8 Analytics Product Manager at SecurityScorecard Detection Product Manager at BAE Applied Intelligence Co-founder & COO of IperLane (acquired) M&A I-Banking Analyst covering Cybersecurity & Data Analytics at Teneo Capital Before graduating college, I also did stints at Citigroup, a frozen yogurt shop, Bloomingdale's, and Bear Stear
- jcims 6y agoSeemed like a joke to me. It slowed me down a little at first but I'll read it tonight...I got far enough to see some good ideas in there.
- hprotagonist 6y agofor half a second i thought it was the detection network(s) for computer vision.
- bArray 6y agoSame. I was trying to figure out what a FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) network might behave like in the context of a CNN! Maybe, rather than be single-shot it tries to explore as many possibilities at once, leveraging further increasing parallelism in the GPU?
- fluffy87 6y agoThought these were DNNs for detecting WSB behaviors.
- panpanna 6y agoRead it twice and I'm still not sure what to make of it. Slightly off topic: Im starting to believe that the amount of stock photos an article have is inversely proportional to uselessness if the content.
- baby 6y agoI started reading and couldn't really follow along, and I work in security, can't imagine what it must be for someone not in the field.
- peterwwillis 6y agoSeems universal in the industry. We also have #yolodevops and #fomodevops. #yolodevops: "We're not going to fix that broken cluster, it's going to be replaced next year with The Cool New Thing.", or, "We don't have time to fix these recurring alerts, because we have to build The Cool New Thing." #fomodevops: "You're not running a dedicated Kubernetes cluster for your single instance Java app? Get with the times, old man.", or, "Make sure you scan your code with these 15 tools to identify bugs and security problems. No, you don't need to learn how to use them or write better code, just install 'em and churn out more features.", or, "You can't have reliable infrastructure without Terraform."
