Thanks for that. I've wondered where this drumbeat of Xinjiang stories (and little evidence) was coming from. The idea that some far-right German fundamentalist is building a following behind some of it makes a lot of sense (particularly under Trump). That said, there's little question what's happened in Tibet in the 70 years China has occupied it ... and what they've already done there (and here ... re the NYC Thai cop reporting to the consulate) (not to mention the Cultural Revolution or Tiananmen) makes it a lot easier to entertain the Xinjiang story. China plays a long game.
