Show HN: An OpenStreetMap Gutenberg Block for WordPress
- mtmail 6y agoHow does the plugin make sure the website doesn't generate too many pageviews/mapviews? https://operations.osmfoundation.org/policies/tiles/ https://operations.osmfoundation.org/policies/tiles/ "OpenStreetMap’s own servers are run entirely on donated resources. They have strictly limited capacity." "OpenStreetMap data is free for everyone to use. Our tile servers are not." Wikipedia recently had to shut down their map tile service because the majority of requests came from outside the wiki projects.
- gsarig 6y agoIt doesn't, and that's a valid point that I didn't consider. Currently, if the site generates too much traffic (the limit's aren't very clear), access will be forbidden. In your opinion, will it suffice if I add an option for the user to change the map's tile layer to a provider like e.g. Mapbox, which requires an API key? Thanks for your feedback.
- gsarig 6y agoFollowing my previous answer, MapBox support has been added, as well as a suggestion to the user that they should prefer it.
