Lockscreen and Authentication Improvements in Android 11
- matchbok 6y agoEven on the third or fourth try, the Android implementation and API of this stuff pales in comparison to what iOS did on round 1, 5 years ago. Plus, so much is already deprecated or in some weird support library that makes no sense. Google, get your stuff together. Geez.
- kevincox 6y agoIt always confused me that Smart Lock could unlock your device. This strikes me as a long winded post trying to pretend that this wasn't a bug (or misfeature) by explaining mostly unrelated locking infrastructure concepts, hoping that the announced change would get lost in the noise. But either way I'm incredibly glad that this is fixed. On-body detection for preventing locking is amazing (although I think it already worked "correctly") so is keeping my phone unlocked while it is near my watch. I really nice extension would be to add the option to shorten the lock time if some Smart Lock factors disappear. For example if I walk away from my desk with my watch it would be nice if my screen locked immediately instead if waiting for the usual timeout. However this may be difficult to implement without spurious locks.
