Background audio is entirely disabled in iOS Safari PWAs.
The same sites can handle doing background media when used as a regular website in Safari, so this feels like one instance of PWA support at least seeming intentionally crippled.
- beervirus 6y agoThat’s a feature, not a bug. I really don’t need background tabs shitting audio out of my phone speakers and running down my battery.
- shahruz 6y agoWhy should a web app that you've manually installed (added to your home screen) be more restricted than when it's accessed via Safari? The feature/bug argument doesn't really apply here - your preference is not the same as everyone else's, and your worst case scenario shouldn't prevent valid uses of the same technology. Especially when it's already something the user has chosen to install.
