I have an old Macbook air, and it has weird behavior with the headphone jack, too. Suppose I am playing a youtube video on the laptop speakers. I pause it, grab my headphones, plug them in and resume playback. For a split second, the sound will play from the speakers, and then switch to the headphones. Even though the headphones were plugged in ~10 seconds ago. My new HP laptop is even worse. If you plug in a headphone while audio is playing, it will just crash the app that is playing. Youtube tab will crash, vlc will crash, Zoom will crash, Skype will crash. It's something I never thought remotely possible.
