I completely agree with the author. Academia is disapointing, I had the opportunity to discover it soon enough to avoid wasting too many years. If you're attracted by deep work on novel subjects, especially in Computer Science, academia is one of the most soul crushing place to be, unfortunately.

Could you expand on what you mean by that? I felt the total opposite when I was working in academia, it was incredibly inspiring.
