I remember eating fish sticks as a kid in the late 70's when we were poor. Not sure if it was cheap store bought or a government thing. We also fished a lot and ate that. This is probably why I still have a visceral, somewhat irrational "poor people food" reaction to fish dishes. Does irritate the heck out of my Dad to this day that both his kids have the same reaction. He loves salmon, so not cheap.

- vagrantJin 6y agoI would have thought you wouldn't like fish because you had too much of it, but 'poor people food'?
- tpush 6y agoWhat is a ""poor people food" reaction"? Do you not eat food that's eaten predominantly by poor people?
- tluyben2 6y agoWhere I am from, anything fried in batter is considered poor people food and indeed I avoid it but mainly because I do not like fatty taste like that.
- protomyth 6y agoI was poor, we ate a lot of fish, did I mention we ate a lot of fish. Got money, started eating other things, internalized that fish is "poor people food". Yep, irrational, but some things just get burned into your mind as a kid.
