  Sure, but I'd rather persuade you that it's not in your interest to post like that, the same way it's not in your interest to litter in a city park or spill oil in a lake. There's nothing wrong in principle with what you posted. It's just that it's the sort of thing that only really works in a smaller group where people have some pre-existing connection to each other. If you do it here, it just leads to misunderstanding and overreaction. Even if 99.99% of readers have no problem with it, that 0.01% is enough to take over a thread. The HN guidelines are written to try to prevent the failure modes that tend to dominate online communities like this and eventually wreck them. It's in your interest to follow them because that's the way we get a more interesting community and more interesting discussions over the long haul.
