Should employers cut your salary if you change cities?
- chiefalchemist 6y agoLike everything else, salary is a function of supply and demand. If a company requires its employees to be in an office in an area where supply is low and demand high, that company will pay more. They'll have to. Remove the in office + geo requirements and supply increases. Offers can and will adjust. It's only natural that payroll will want to do the same.
- necovek 6y agoIt's always a good idea to look at an opposite situation: should employers increase your salary if you move to a more expensive city? You ought to feel exactly the same with both: IMO, if you don't, you are not being fair or honest with yourself :) In general, a trend to equate salaries globally is already underway (due to remote work availability), but even in remote-friendly roles like IT, it will take decades.
