Also not a lawyer, but aren't there infinite-ish ways to connect Lego bricks? You can keep making a bigger version of the same thing

There are only so many ways to arrange the sample bits in an audio file 3 minute long, yet an audio file can contain copyrightable music. There are only so many combinations of characters that could occur in a reasonable sized book. There are only so many ways to color pixels in a photograph. Etc.
