Yeah I wanted to make a small change to Prusa's mk2/s extruder a long time ago. Rendering that design takes five or six minutes on my relatively-fast desktop, and it's an extremely simple thing. It was not clear to me why it was so slow. In general I see OpenSCAD as a fun toy for making software-generated artwork, but not as a serious tool to make real things.
