Online gambling is legal almost everywhere - how does the FBI have the ability to do this?
- aneth 16y agoNot in the US, and these are US domain names.
- barefoot 16y agoThey are using a TLD (top level domain name) operated by a US company (Verizon). The government hasn't gone out of it's jurisdiction, technically speaking.
- tankenmate 16y agoVerisign, not Verizon.
- barefoot 16y agoAutocorrect on iOS, sorry.
- rbetts 16y agoThey are accused of a conspiracy of intentionally fraudulent financial transactions. From the press release: ... arranged for the money received from U.S. gamblers to be disguised as payments to hundreds of non-existent online merchants purporting to sell merchandise such as jewelry and golf balls
- burgerbrain 16y agoClearly the FBI has the ability to do this... they just did. Now, do they have the right to do this? Of course not, but not having the right to do something has never stopped the FBI before. Remember, this is an organization that was created explicitly for the purpose of out-Mafia-ing the Mafia.
