> Start watching This Old House,
I feel like I must be missing something about this show, because any time in my entire life that I have watched it, it seems to be just small spots of them using some expensive tool to fix some obscure problem.
It never felt deep or cohesive to me. Just random walk throughs of houses that I assume have to be owned by wealthy people to afford all the work being done.
I recently learned that I actually really enjoy The Woodwrights Shop, so maybe it's a similar thing of me just not being old enough to appreciate what they're doing?
- hinkley 6y agoI don't know what they've been dealing with the last few years, but it used to be practically a cliche that they'd discover the foundation was cracked or the corner of the house was solid wood rot, and the estimate for the renovation would increase by 50% overnight.
- quicklyfrozen 6y agoThere is going to be some of that as part of what they do is demonstrating new technologies and techniques for old problems. The scale of the renovations has definitely grown exponentially over the years, so it might be worth revisiting some of the earlier seasons where their projects were more modest. I remember some of them struggling more with budget then the more recent projects seem to.
