I've been using freecad, it's okay for the basic mechanical 3D stuff I make the "just use fusion 360, it's free" contingent have, imo, stifled interest and support for FOSS CAD (alternately, view it as a very successful market domination move by Autodesk)

That's an interesting point. "Free" as in beer means that we will rely, and grow dependent, upon them. If they had not been giving us fish, we would have learned to fish. Is there a word for this?
