Are there even any Scientific American subscribers who would vote for Trump? Looks like they're just trying to capitalize on his crazy by getting new subscribers.
- war1025 6y agoTrump has a 50% approval rating, so I would guess there is some level of overlap between the two groups. Probably a fairly small overlap, but it almost certainly exists.
- hprotagonist 6y ago43%, i believe. https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/trump-approval-ratings/ https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/trump-approval-ratings/ he's been <50% approval, >50% disapproval since January 21, 2017.
- war1025 6y agoJust depends who is doing the poll. https://www.newsmax.com/politics/Trump-approvalrating-poll-twitter/2020/09/14/id/986799/ https://www.newsmax.com/politics/Trump-approvalrating-poll-t...
- hprotagonist 6y agothe values i gave are the weighted means of many pollsters.
- war1025 6y agoEither way its pedantry to the broader point I was trying to make of "There are certainly Trump supporters who subscribe to Scientific American"
- hprotagonist 6y agoah. that claim does seem entirely plausible, yes.
- adamors 6y agoTeump never had 50% approval rating. https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/trump-approval-ratings/ https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/trump-approval-ratings/
- ryaan_anthony 6y agoDespite what you see in social media, most people are not a stereotype.
- war1025 6y agoCare to elaborate? I'm not entirely sure what you're getting at.
- sammalloy 6y agoTrump's average is at 40%, and is currently hovering around 42%.
- duxup 6y agoOr their motivations are as they say they are ...
- danhak 6y agoAnecdotally, a lot of the sorts of people I've met who would subscribe to SciAm are not particularly politically conscious and subscribe to the "enlightened centrism" / "both sides" kind of philosophy.
- swebs 6y agoSo people who believe in nuance?
- happytoexplain 6y agoWhy did you reframe what the parent said? This tone is usually used to make an implicit point beyond or in contrast to the original statement, but I can't identify it in this case.
- ardy42 6y ago> Looks like they're just trying to capitalize on his crazy by getting new subscribers. Who would pay money for a magazine subscription because of a political endorsement? Maybe the editors just thought this was the right thing to do right now.
