Honest question: why did you stay so long?

  Honestly? They barely asked me to do any work in later years. A lot of people were just checked out at the office, even management. I mostly collected a paycheck and worked on researching my own projects, so that when I quit, I hit the ground running with a startup. It helps to know the context. I got wiped out in the dot-com boom of 2000. I needed a safe haven, Oracle was shelter from the storm. I got married, bought a house, had kids, and so for a while I was coasting.
