I love Bukowski but reading his work as 'seeing through' things doesn't strike me as a good approach. His 'seeing through' involved a lot of fucked up stuff, among them what seems like a rather unhealthy relationship with alcohol. An alcoholic plays life on extra hard mode. No wonder the conclusion is cynical!
